Midwest Martial Arts Academy FAQ Page
Question: Can I safely take martial arts training if I have an injury, such as knee, elbow or shoulder?
Answer: Yes. At Midwest Martial Arts we ask our students for their personal best. If you do have an injury we will teach you to work around it.
Question: Am I too old to take martial arts?
Answer: Each Midwest student is challenged to their capabilities. Midwest has coached many adult students to acheiving their Black Belt. This is a great form of exercise and keeps the body moving.
Question: Is it safe to train?
Answer: Yes it is very safe. We believe safety is our number 1 priority. We don't believe a person has to get beat up to learn how to defend themselves. Usually if a student comes to class injured it is due to another sport or activity. We tell them they need to stick to something safe like martial arts!
Question: What are the benefits of training at Midwest Martial Arts Academy?
Answer: There are many benefits of training at Midwest. The most obvious ones are:
- to be educated in physical fitness, balance, focus, flexability (flexibility will increase while perfecting your technique),
- learn how to set and reach all your goals (martial arts and life),
- develop true self confidence by knowing you can truly defend yourself.
If the classes are for your children you will often see their grades improve within the first 6 months as they develop leadership skills. One benefit we hear most from our adult program is stress relief.
Question: What is the philosophy of Midwest Martial Arts Academy?
Answer: We believe in developing leaders of the community. We do not believe in cage fighting. Even though we teach the area’s most effective martial arts we believe in using martial arts to improve ourselves in all areas of life. We also have a strong belief in family and we work hard to help reinforce your family values.
Question: Do I need to be in shape before I start training?
Answer: Absolutely not. That's our job. We will educate you on how to get in shape at a pace that will challenge you but not cause injury. Together we will get you in the best shape of your life.
Question: How do I get started?
Answer: This is really easy. Just fill out the Contact Us form giving us info on when it is convenient to contact you to schedule an introductory class or give one of our schools a call. See our Contact Page for contact information, maps and operating hours.
Question: What is an introductory class?
Answer: This is a free class designed for you and your family to come in and meet our staff, see our facility, and take a class in a private room with one of our friendly, super motivated instructors.
Question: How long will it take to get a black belt?
Answer: Each person's progress towards a black belt is their own individual journey and it is not a race. Generally, if a student enrolls at a white belt level it takes about 3 1/2 - 4 years. Sometimes longer depending on each person's specific needs. Black Belts are built from the inside out and this requires time.
